How do I start the timer?
Tap Start Talk in the transport row. If you've set a countdown in the Cue Sheet, it counts down first — otherwise the clock starts right away.
What's the difference between Fixed and Free timing?
Fixed gives each section its own time budget — enough structure to stay on schedule, with room for things like questions. Free means you use the time as you like; Talktempus just tracks the total against your budget.
What does the lock button do?
Locks the controls so nothing gets bumped by accident — no jumping sections, no accidental pause. Scrolling or swiping through your manuscript still works exactly as normal; lock only protects the buttons. Hold it down for about a second to unlock.
How do I finish my talk?
On the last section, hold the checkmark button (where Next usually is) for about a second. That brings up your Session Report — planned vs. actual time, pace accuracy, and a share option. Give your talk a name in the Cue Sheet beforehand and it'll headline the report.
Does this work without internet?
Yes — once you've loaded the app online at least once. It's built to run with zero signal, so load it before you go on stage. Your in-progress talk is also saved automatically, so losing signal or accidentally closing the app won't lose your import.
Will my screen lock mid-talk?
No — the screen stays awake automatically the whole time you're actively presenting, so you won't get an unexpected lock screen. It releases again once you pause or finish.
If I close the app or lose signal, do I lose my talk?
No — whatever's currently loaded is saved on your device automatically. Close the tab, lose signal, restart your phone — reopen Talktempus and your talk is right where you left it. No re-importing.
What does Import do? Can I use Google Drive?
Upload .docx opens your device's own file picker, which includes Google Drive, iCloud, or Dropbox if you have them set up. You can also paste plain text directly and mark section headings with #.
Should I use Document or Slide view?
Document is one continuous scroll through your whole manuscript. Slide turns each section into its own full screen you swipe between — if you're more comfortable swiping than scrolling on a tablet or phone, use Slide. Switch anytime in Cue Sheet → Appearance; your timing works the same either way.
How do I change the look?
Cue Sheet → Appearance: dark or light theme, document or slide view, text size, and font.
Can I jump to a different section?
Yes — tap any dot on the progress rail under the header, or use the ‹ › buttons.
What do the stars next to sections mean?
Tap the star in the Cue Sheet's Running Order to mark a section as a priority — it gets numbered in the order you star things (first one starred is ★1, next is ★2, and so on). The same numbers show right on the manuscript, so if you're running short on time you can see at a glance which sections matter most and cut from the unstarred ones first. Talktempus doesn't cut anything for you — it's just there to help you decide.
